Writing Log

Writing Log #1

Here we are. I’m hoping these writing logs can be like little time capsules for future Danielle, just to give her insight into my current headspace, how my work in progress (WIP) is going at the moment and what my weekly/monthly goals are. So current WIP is at about 50,000 words.

Let me catch you up really fast. I did a little personal Nanowrimo from mid-January to mid-February while I was searching for jobs and I was pretty diligent. I had a lot of motivation during that time. I don’t want to get too into it, but you know that feeling when someone just really makes you angry, and you want to not only be able to tell them that you’re doing well but you want to show them that you’re absolutely winning at life? Yeah, that was exactly my mindset throughout the beginning of the year. We’ve all encountered “that person” at one point or another and I needed to prove to “that person” that I would indeed be a successful author, perhaps sometime soon. But it really wasn’t just about “that person” I was also really annoyed with myself. I hadn’t been writing very consistently and I wanted to prove to myself that I could make a writing schedule and stick to it.

I also landed a job at the end of January that would start a few weeks afterward and I knew I wouldn’t have an unlimited amount of free days to write anymore. So, I was writing like crazy. I clocked in at about 500 words a day on a normal day, 1,000 on a good day and nearly 3,000 on a great day. I was on a roll. And then…I started my job. I think I’ve written a collective 3,000 words since starting my job in mid-February. It has not been easy balancing a full day of work and creative writing. People talk about how difficult it is but, shit. It’s no joke.

I’m planning on starting the summer with a writing schedule. In interviews, many authors talk about how they get up early to write. I used to be a morning person…before college. It’s not going to be easy but it’s definitely what needs to happen, the morning is the only guaranteed free time I have. No one is awake to distract me and my nights are just too unpredictable. I’ll probably have to do a bulk of my writing in the morning on weekdays and on the weekends. My goal this week get in an hour of writing time each morning and revise at least 3 chapters to make them readable. Wish me luck.
