Hi, I’m Danielle and I’m writing a book. Well, that’s a lie. I’ve written a book, I’m currently revising a book. If you know me in real life, it may surprise you to know that I’ve written an entire book or that I’ve written anything or that I even like writing. I’ve actually been consistently writing stories since I was 10 years old. I went from re-writing episodes of my favorite cartoons to writing high school dramas that probably read about as well as a Riverdale script. I don’t usually like to talk about my writing because in the past announcing to someone that I was working on a book was usually followed by a “What is it about?” or a “Can I read it?”
That’s a hard no for both questions and I promise I’m not trying to be difficult. I’ll be happy to let you read my work once it’s readable and I’ll definitely tell you what it’s about once I know. I’ve changed the plot a couple of times as well as experimented with different points of view, so I’m seriously doing you a favor by not sharing it right now. I’m not as scared about sharing my work as I used to be. I’m braver, at least I’m trying to be brave. People close to me (as well as total strangers!) have encouraged me to be braver when it comes to my writing and my dreams and I’m finally listening.
A few years ago I was very shy about my writing. I didn’t know if I was even remotely good at telling a story. When I first told my dad I was writing a book and showed him a few pages I had written, I was shaking. SHAKING. He was the first person to ever read my (adult) written work. Sure, he’d seen my stories that I’d written in elementary and middle school but from high school until that point, I hadn’t been too open about sharing my work. His response was very positive, and he assured me it wasn’t because I was his daughter. I got further confirmation that maybe this writing thing was something I was good at when I received positive comments online after sharing a few pages on a site that sadly no longer exists and after sharing with my creative writing classes in college.
I’ve decided to start this blog as a way to hold myself accountable for my writing goals and my life goals. I want to be a published author and someday I hope that I can write books full-time, that would be a dream. So, welcome to my corner of the internet, I’m looking forward to sharing my writing/publishing journey and I hope to meet other writers along the way with similar goals.
