Reading via audiobooks is my favorite way to read. Not only can you read while you’re doing other tasks such as exercising, driving or cooking, it also allows you to get a more theatrical reading experience. Here are a few audiobooks I absolutely loved.
One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus
Full cast audiobooks are excellent. They help you as a listener really discern who’s POV you’re in and also it makes for a more immersive experience in my opinion. One of Us is Lying puts us in the POV of 4 different teenagers as we get to know their struggles and secrets. I think each of the actors in this audiobooks were perfectly mysterious and kept me engaged and continuously questioning who killed Simon.
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
THIS BOOK. Oh my goodness. This book will always have a special place in my heart. It was literally everything. Funny, relatable, full of political intrigue and swoony moments that kept me coming back. Zahra’s character was especially hilarious in the audiobook. Plus, if you listen to RW&RB on audiobook you get to hear Henry’s cute British accent monologuing about how much he adores Alex and who doesn’t want that?
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green
I read Will Grayson, Will Grayson in college during one of the worst semesters of my life, also in the dead of an Indiana winter. It was that point in winter when it was like 3 degrees, I was just extra over it and couldn’t imagine trudging through the snow one more day just to get to my 8:30 class. This audiobook was hilarious, and definitely lifted my spirits during that time. You hear from the points of view of the two Will Graysons. Their opposite world views as well as their diverse, lovable group of friends made for a very entertaining read.
The Hate U Give
The Hate U Give is definitely one of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to. The voice actors were able to deliver a wonderful emotionally resonate performance for readers. I really felt every emotion while listening to this audiobook, it made me want to laugh and cry and stand up to injustice along with the characters. I recommend it to everyone.
Attachments by Rainbow Rowell
Oh. My. Gosh. Attachments is the funniest audiobook ever. The story centers around a shy IT guy who has to monitor work emails for inappropriate content. He is infatuated with a co-worker he’s never met but has become acquainted with through her emails. Most of the story is written through email exchanges between the love interest and her friend, and they are so funny. The book is full of miscommunication, mutual pining and missed connections. The book is frustrating, funny and extremely relatable. I highly recommend reading it.
What If It’s Us by Adam Silvera & Becky Albertalli
I would say this book is extremely character driven, so a lot weight was put on the characters and the voice actors to bring this book to life and they sure did. The voice actors brought so much personality and quirkiness to the characters and I loved every second of it.
