I Wrote A Book During Quarantine!

Soooooo I wrote a book during quarantine!

I started it during April Nanowrimo and failed miserably at writing much at all during that month. Then I wrote furiously in May and June, then I finished my first draft on July 8th. Wow. It was a quick 3-ish months.

Is my draft good? No way. Is it readable? Absolutely not. But, that’s what second drafts are for. The plan now is to revise, revise, revise, and make it readable this month so I can let my family and critique partners read it.

Just to elaborate on what my story looks like right now, it’s more like a detailed outline. The story and the characters are all there, but there is still a lot I need to flesh out. I have two side characters that don’t really have their own arcs and are not very impactful in the overall storyline, so for the second draft I’ll be trying to make them more relevant.

I also have a lot to work on in regards of descriptions and names. It’s pretty astounding how many unnamed characters and place holders I have. A lot of this story involves a video game and it’s based on a real RPG game, so I used a lot of names from that game as placeholders. So basically, I need to come up with my own names for things because, you know, I don’t want to be sued or anything.

I am excited to finally have a completed first draft, but I know that the real work has just begun. I will focus on making it readable and then I will trust my family and my critique partners/beta readers to help me make it good.

How are your projects going right now?
